Sunday Hike

Ava and Mommy at the end of the "hike"

Even though she started in the back pack...she wanted to get
out and walk by herself

I'm a big girl...I can hike by myself

Mommy carried the grey Jansport

Daddy carried Ava in the backpack
Today, the weather was finally cool enough to enjoy some outdoor fun! After church and naps (for Mommy and Ava), the three of us headed to Kennesaw Mountain. We walked the trail and enjoyed being outside! Daddy carried Ava in the back pack and Mommy carried drinks, snacks and diapers in the grey Jansport. Mommy has had the Jansport since her college days! The Jansport may be boring looking...but it has been on many adventures! This afternoon was beautiful and Ava, Mommy and Daddy had so much fun on our little hike together.

Ava's little bag is all ready for the day
Ava had her first day of Mom's Day out today! She woke up ready to take on the day, get to know her teachers and new friends. Daddy even went to work late so that he could take Ava to school on her first day. Ava did cry a little when I dropped her off at the door. She had a great day and did really good until about 12:00, and she was tired and ready to come home. I was called and went and picked her up early. She was excited to see me. We got home, played a little bit, ate a snack and took a nap.

Family Beach picture

Our family had a great time at the annual Medcalf Family Beach trip! We again stayed on Folly Beach, which is near Charleston, SC. Ava enjoyed playing with her cousins, McClellen and Hudson, Aunt Carri and Uncle Brad and her Grammy and Doc! Mommy and Daddy had a wonderful time too. We spent most of the time playing in the ocean and in the sand.

Ava had no fear of the ocean! She, Hudson and McClellen would run and splash in the water. They would stop every now and then to play in the sand and then it was back into the ocean. The kids even enjoyed feeding the seagulls and watching them catch the bread mid-air One morning we took the three cousins to the Charleston Children's museum. Another day the Mommies had a shopping day at the outlets while the Daddies took care of the children. One evening we took family beach pictures and can not wait to see how they are going to turn out. The last time we took a family beach picture was in 2000....we have had quite some additions to the Medcalf clan in 10 years!!

Do you see the similarities?

I just found these pictures and they made me laugh!! I think its funny that Ava makes some of the same expressions!

Fun on a summer day

Ava likes to swing in the big girl swing now!

I love my slide!

Helping Daddy plant an azaela

We all had a fun time this afternoon! Since it was finally in the mid 80's instead of the high 90's, there was much fun to be had outside. Ava helped Daddy plant a new flower in the front yard. After some yardwork Ava, Mommy and Daddy had fun playing in the backyard...swinging, sliding and relaxing on the hammock.

Today was Ava's Open House at her Mom's Day Class. Ava will be going on Tuesday and Thursdays to Burnt Hickory Baptist Church's Mom's Day Out. The babies through 2 year old section of the preschool department at the church is called Park Street Jr. The area has a fun, colorful mural all around the preschool department. It makes the area feel very welcoming.

Ava did great at Open House. She was a little hestitant at first but once I showed her that there were babies and a kitchen area, she was fine. Her class this year will have eight chidren (3 girls and 5 boys). She has two teachers, so the ratio is really good. At Open House Ava recieved a little bag and calenders that tell about her daily activities and monthly lesson plans. The morning went great and I can't wait for her to get to know her new friends and teachers better and all the exciting things she will learn and experience this year!
