HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!! We began celebrating with a Valentine's breakfast of pink grits and strawberries. Ava then had fun opening her Valentine presents from both sets of grandparents and from Mommy and Daddy. For lunch I packed Ava some berry/applesauce, strawberries and then put heart stickers on her crackers and cheese. Today at school they were having pink day so of course Ava had some pink to wear. Tonight once Daddy came home, we had a yummy dinner all together. It was a fabulous way to celebrate Valentine's day with the two loves of my life!

Ava and I had such a fun time today playing with our good friends Beverly and Hannah. Beverly and I were friends as single ladies at FBCW. After we both got married we lost touch but reconnected a few years ago, because we both had preemies. Ava was born early in December 2008 and then Hannah was born early in May 2009. It has been fun to keep in touch and see how these two preemie princesses have grown up. Today, it was so fun seeing the two girls playing and having so much fun together!

What a beautiful day it was today!! This morning we had a wonderful time worshipping, had a yummy lunch and Ava went down for a good nap. After Ava woke up we heading to Kennesaw Mountain for a little hike. We were not sure how long Ava would last on the hike, but she made it half way up, walking all by herself. Since it was getting a little late, and the sun was setting (which was beautiful), we headed down the mountain. Thankful today for the great weather and getting to spend time with two of my favorite people! Thankful for how God has blessed our little family.

Most of the time I am in "mommy gear", so it was so nice to get to dress up for the celebration of Chinese New Year. One of the companies that Daddy represents is a Chinese company. They invited us to a Chinese New Year celebration at the Canton House. It was so fun and quite a cultural experience. We saw a festive dragon dance, heard a speech from the Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and I even ate some jelly fish! It was a great night of dressing up and a yummy dinner!

We had a great weekend celebrating Grammy's birthday! Since Grammy is still recovering from her foot surgery so we had a family celebration at Doc and Grammy's house. BRRRRR! A huge cold front came in this afternoon. So what does an active little girl do, if it is too cold to play outside? Ava went "swimming" in our big bathtub. The water was colored with ice cubes that were dyed with different colors. Ava also played with some colored foam. It was so much fun and Ava had a blast!

November 1984-Day the Lord saved me, June 1995-I graduated from EHS and began working at Marietta Baptist Camp, August 1995-May 1999-Many memories were made at GWU. August 2004-met Adam Cooler. March 25, 2006-I married Adam Cooler.

December 30, 2008-Ava Elizabeth Cooler was born!

The above dates mark the days that changed my life! Today we celebrated one of the most life-changing days in my life...the birth of my precious Ava Elizabeth. Her names mean "Desired and Consecrated to God". The meaning of her name fits her impact on my life perfectly. First of all Ava was VERY DESIRED...longed for! It took us two years of a hard, heart-wrenching infertility journey before I became pregnant with Ava. Secondly and most importantly, she is CONSECRATED to the Lord. From the moment I became pregnant with her, I prayed that her life would be used to bring glory to God. One of the most common verses that I prayed over Ava while I was pregnant with her was, Isaiah 26:8 "Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts." As Ava grows up and moves from a toddler to a teen to a woman, I pray that she will always follow God's truth and love Him with all her heart!

On December 30, 2008 at approximately 2:00 am, Adam floored the 4-Runner to get me to Kennestone Hospital as quick as possible. When I arrived I explained to the nurse that I was having some complications with my pregnancy. I reminded her that I had just been their four days ago after being on bed rest at the hospital for 10 days. The nurse quickly got me to a room and took a look at the situation. She put monitors on me and check to see what was going on. From the look on her face I knew that it was not good. She quickly called the doctor and told me that he was on his way. After what seemed like forever, my wonderful doctor, Dr. Bardwell came in took take a look at Ava and I. He looked me in the eyes, held my hand and said very calmly, "We have to take the baby now." With one word from Dr. Barwell, there were what seemed like ten nurses in my room. They rushed me into the emergency room and started prepping me for an emergency C-section. While they were getting me ready, I totally lost it and started trying to get off the table, taking swipes at whomever was around me. The next thing I knew, I was waking up with a scratching throat and Ava had been born.

There began a journey of faith, prayer, family, friends, therapy, tears, laughter and unconditional love! After Ava spent 57 days in the NICU. We brought her home at a whopping 4 1/2 pounds, eating about 2 ounces of formula and wearing a heart monitor. Slowly but surely Ava grew bigger, ate more and FINALLY got off her heart monitor. Soon we started with therapy to help her reach her potential. Even though it might of taken her a little longer and she had to work a little harder to reach some of her milestones she did it! Now at three years old, she is pretty much caught up with her peers! PRAISE GOD, FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW!!

The journey has not been easy. The journey has not been fair. This journey has not been without some tears. But this journey from NICU to now, has changed my life! Before we began on the journey first, trying to become pregnant and then the last three years since Ava's life, I cared alot about what others thought about me. What I looked like, how I acted, what I had or didn't have, how smart, pretty or funny I was...today I really don't care. Through the journey we have taken, I have come to understand truly about unconditional love. Through this journey I have come to realize how important it is to have a strong marriage, strong family and supportive friends. Above all I have come to realize that it is only through the Lord's grace, mercy, strength and peace that I could have endured any of this journey. A line from Laura Story's "Blessings", states perfectly how this journey has changed my life. "What if my greatest disappointments, or the aching of this life, is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy."!!

We have celebrated her birthday, last night and today. Last night, Grandmama and Poppy Joe, Brian, Stacey, Zachary and Aubrey came over and we celebrated with cupcakes. This morning Daddy, Mommy and Ava had a little celebration and opened some gifts. Later in the morning we head up to the NICU to say thank you to the incredible nurses and doctors, that took care of Ava. We met up with some of our NICU friends, Melissa and Noah. After talking with the doctors and nurses, we all head out to get some lunch. It was such a fun-filled day, celebrating my precious miracle baby!

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2011!! Ava gave Mommy and Daddy a great Christmas gift by sleeping all the way to 7:30! We woke up and walked into the den to see what Santa had left. Ava's face was priceless when she saw her Toy Story figures under the tree. There was even a little squeal! After playing with her Toy Story toys, she played with her Duplo blocks and building bricks. It was such a fun, sweet morning. Later in the morning we drove over to Grandmama and Poppy Joes house and went to church with them. After church we went back to there house for lunch and to open presents.

Tonight we started our night with a wonderful time of worship at Cedarcrest with Grandmama and Poppy Joe. I love that Ava is part of a preschool ministry that does super fun stuff, like crafts, action songs but also focuses on the truths of the Bible. I am also thankful that we attend a church where our pastor (George Wright) is not afraid to teach the truth and preach the cross and salvation even and especially during that Christmas Eve service. After the service we ate our families' traditional Christmas eve meal of hotdogs and Cobb Chili. Ava took a bath and put on her Christmas PJ's. She put the cookies for Santa by the fire place...after taking a taste.

This weekend we went to Greenville for our "Greenville Christmas" with Grammy, Doc, Brad, Carri, Hudson and McClellen. It was so much fun! The weekend started with a short, but fun visit from Me-Me and Bob-Bob. On Friday night, we all piled into Brad and Carri's minivan and drove through the Holiday Lights at Roper Mountain. On Saturday we opened presents, had a great dinner, and even a birthday party for Jesus! Ava had a wonderful time with her Doc and Grammy and playing with her cousins, Hudson and McClellen. It was so wonderful to celebrate Christmas together!

On Thursday, Ava has her first school Christmas party. Last year because of the snow, Ava had to miss out on a Christmas Party. It was such a fun time to see Ava with her little school friends. It blessed my heart, and there were a few tears, when I watched Ava sitting still and singing Jingle Bells with her class. I am so thankful for the wonderful teachers and school that Ava attends. They teach her academically but most importantly they teach her about loving Jesus.

Sometimes its nice to just have a lazy Saturday. We started the day by leisurely having breakfast and getting ready for the day. We all went to downtown Acworth, to try to make some Christmas memories. It was an epic fail. What was advertise as a Dickens Christmas with children's activities ended being three adults dressed up in costume and then five or six little game tables set up. It was a little disappointing but we made the best of it. We took a little drive, we went and played with the puppies at Pet Co, and then ate at Steak and Shake. After naptime, Daddy and Ava watched Ratatouille. The big news of the day was that Ava stayed dry all day long. YEAH, YEAH, we are on our way to being potty trained!

Ava has just started going to a new, fun, play therapy place. It is called Babies R Talking and it is amazing and has been so beneficial to Ava so far. It has been such a great place for Ava, because she enjoys being active. The play place combines fun, free play with speech therapy. The children are able to play with a variety of activities, while a speech therapist incorporates speech therapy with their play time. It is practical practice of using speech in everyday, social and life situations. Ava is having so much fun playing that she doesn't realize that she is having speech therapy! So thankful for finding the fun, educational and helpful play place.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! It truly was a happy thanksgiving. We spent the day at Me-Me and Bob-Bob's house for lunch. It was great to spend the day with my grandparents, parents, brother and sister in law, nephew, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. There were a total of 20 adults and 9 children. Thankful, thankful for the amazing family that has blessed my life! God has been so very good and gracious to our family.

Yesterday we began "Operation Potty Training"! We started our adventure by going to Target and Ava picking out her pull ups, big girl panties and potty seat. Of course they were all Princess or Toy Story, since those are her favorites. We spent the day in the house, making a cake, building a fort and working on going to the potty. The morning was a little rough with four accidents, but in the afternoon we actually had success! After Ava got up from nap and we played around a little bit, I asked her if she needed to go potty. We went into the bathroom, sat on the potty and success! We celebrated and Ava got a treat out of our treat bag. Today we begin again...hopefully another stress-free day!

End of an era

Yesterday was the end of an era. I sold Holly the Honda. It was a sad and reflective day because Holly and I have made some great memories together. I have driven Holly for almost 12 years. I bought her in 1999, right after my horrific wreck that totaled my first car Sally the Saturn. In the last 12 years Holly and l have lived life together, both the good times and the bad. Today when I picked Ava up from school her teachers told me that she got her fingers smooched in the bathroom door. It was an accident and they gave her big hugs, a bandaid and ice. Also, I am thankful that our good friend Miss Lee works at the church where Ava goes to school so she was able to comfort and calm Ava down. When I picked Ava up and saw her finger I did end up taking her to her pediatrician just to make sure. Her doctor looked at her finger and said that she did not need a stitch or anything. Her finger is just going to be bruised and a little tender. Thankful today for sweet teachers and great doctors that take good care of my sweet Ava.

GOOOOOOOO Mighty Bulldogs!! On Saturday morning Adam, Ava and I drove up to GWU for homecoming. It was such a great time of reconnecting with old friends and showing Ava around Gardner-Webb. We started the day with a little tour of the campus, pictures in front of my dorm and student center and into the bookstore for some long sleeve t-shirts for Ava and Mommy. We then drove over to our tailgating spot and met up with some great friends, The Weathers, The Sterlings, The Normans and the Espinosas. It was so fun for all of us to be back together...it was like no time had past.

One of the funny, "you know you are old moments" came when Christina and I saw a cheerleader walking in to the stadium. Of course we ahhhed and "you remember when we were cheerleaders together". After a second we looked at each other and said, isn't she cold, she needs some pants on or at least a turtleneck. Do you think she took some Emergen-C so she will not get sick? We then ask...were our skirts that short. One of the guys that went to school with us, said yes ya'lls skirts were just that short! It is amazing that just a mere 13 years ago (wow), we would have been worried about how cute we looked in skirt and then on Saturday we were having a "mom" moment towards the little cheerleader.

Saturday was so fun and a blessing to see great friends and just see how far God has brought each one of us in the years since we have graduated. God has been so faithful to answer the prayers that we prayed together as 18, 19 and 20 year olds. God has truly given me and I think I can speak for the others, far more then we could ever ask or imagine!

Ava and I had a funny experience this morning...well now it is funny! After Ava had breakfast we sat at her little table to work on her bear puzzle. She loves it because you can make the bear have a different head, shirt and pants, and switch them all around. She played with the puzzle for a few minutes and then said, "I all done.". I said that is fine, but we have to clean up. Ava looked at me and said no, and then ran off! I went after her and brought her back to the table and told her to clean up again. She again looked at me and said, "No."! Do you sense a pattern?? After the second No, I told her she could either clean up or get a pinch. After reading Dr. Dobson's Dare to Discipline, we give her a very slight pinch on the fatty part of the back of her leg, instead of spanking. When we have spanked Ava she usually laughs and spanks us back. So back to this morning. After I asked Ava if she wanted to clean up or a pinch, she paused for a second, cocked her head and said, "PINCH"!! That is what happened!! She got and pinch and then she cleaned up! It is never a dull moment

The tradition continues!! Today we made our annual trek up to Jasper, GA to Yahoo farms. It was a special treat because Doc and Grammy were able to come in town and go with us too. We love Yahoo Farms because it is small and sort of off the beaten path, so it is not too crowded. Today, Ava had fun on the hayride, in the butterfly garden, playing on a jumpy and feeding the goats. Feeding the goats was her favorite and was worth the drive! While we were there we found our pumpkin that will be turned in to our Jack-o-latern this evening. I love making memories and having traditions that Ava will look forward to as she grows up. Thankful for a beautiful day, and amazing family and fun times together...feeling blessed.

On Saturday while we were in Greenville we went to the Furman game. This was a very fun and exciting game because Furman (where Doc and Grammy went to college) and Samford (where Uncle Brad went to school) played each other. We started the day with a yummy tailgate with the Heaths, a tradition we have done as long as I can remember. Ava did great at the game and even lasted until halftime The halftime show was the highlight for Ava, she was enthralled and watched intently the entire time. After the half time show we heading back to Grammy's house. Ava had to go with out a nap that day because of all the fun, but she did great! We both had such a great time at the Furman game and just getting to spend time with great friends and family!

This weekend Ava and I went to Greenville, since Daddy was off on a fishing trip with his dad, brother and nephew. On Friday we had a special treat of getting to go to the Greenville zoo with our great friends and of course fun Grammys! Ava had a wonderful time playing with her friends Maggie and Kerri Grace. It was so fun to be at the zoo with Ava and let her see "Joy" the elephant. Joy the elephant has been at the Greenville zoo since I was a little kid. Today we went to the North Georgia Fair and it was so much fun! This morning there was a deal at the fair, if you got there between 10 and 11 you got free admissions and free rides. It was awesome since Ava really only could ride on about 3 rides because of her height (I understand!). Ava's favorite ride was the "horses" (the merry go round). She even road on the Nemo ride all by herself. Though she was upset and cried at first, when the ride ended she wanted to ride it again. We ended the day by going through the petting zoo. Ava was able to pet bunnies, sheep and goats. The funniest thing she did was chase and call the baby goats , puppies. She would chase them around and say "hey puppies, stop puppies", it was hilarious. I am a big fan of the fair and it did not disappoint!

Today we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of 9/11/2001. At Kennesaw battlefield they had placed one full size flag down for each person killed on that life altering, terrible day. As we walked through the flags, I was saddened for those who had lost a son, daughter, mom, dad, sister, brother or friend on that tragic and heartbreaking day. It made me thankful for the men and women who still today stand guard over our country. Thank you for your service. Thank you for protecting me and my family and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Yesterday was a big day in the Cooler house...Ava moved to a toddler bed! We made a big deal on Saturday about her moving out of her crib and into her NEW bed. Daddy put the bed together and Ava helped! Ava wanted to make sure that all her sleeping friends liked her new bed (of course they did!). Naptime was a little rough. It took us about 45 minutes for Ava to settle down and finally go to sleep. So we were a little worried that bed time and sleeping through the night was going to be a challenge. We could not have been more WRONG! Ava did fantastic! She went right to sleep, stayed in her bed the entire night and slept until 8:15 am! I think Ava really likes getting snuggled in with her sheets and cover. Fingerscrossed that she will continue to do well in her NEW bed!!

What an exciting day we had today at the park! Ava and I met some friends to have playtime and a picnic together at my friend Rebekah's neighborhood park. The day was going great, the kids were playing and the weather was absolutely wonderful. Ava was being her usual daredevil self and climbed up on top of one of the highest equipment at the park. I did not notice that another little boy was up there with her. I had just started walking over to check on her and PUSH!! The little boy pushed her off the side of the equipment...about 10 to 12 feet in the high. As she was falling she hit against the climbing ladder. While she was falling her foot and a little bit of her arm got caught for just a second in the rungs of the later. It looked terrible, but it actually slowed her descent to the ground tremendously! When I got to her, her little eyes were open wide and she had a few tears coming down her face. I think the fall knocked the breath out of her because it took her a minute to cry. I looked in her eyes, felt her arms and legs and felt her belly too. She was just fine, nothing broken and nothing bleeding!

A few minutes later, after some rest and a big hug, she was off running, climbing, sliding and having fun. I on the other hand just about fell apart! I was so mad at the little boys nanny/babysitter who was not paying attention to what the little boy was doing. She made the boy apologize and then he had to have time out (what a joke!). I was seething with anger but I knew just to walk to the other side of the playground with Ava and just take a minute so that I did not do or say anything I might regret later!

Once I cooled down I was praising God for the protection He gave to my sweet Ava when she fell. As she was falling, the only prayer I could get out was Jesus help! I am so thankful that Ava is just fine and the only mark from her fall is a small scratch under her eye. She is now sleeping peacefully in her bed. Thankful that we are all at home right now, all in one piece!

We spent Labor Day weekend in Greenville (with Grammy and Doc) and then at the lakehouse! The weekend started with me having to get a crown (boo!). But I have the best dentist ever....Doc (my Daddy!). After the dental procedure and church on Sunday morning we headed for the lake. We spent the rest of the weekend with Grammy, Doc, Brad, Carri, McClellen and Hudson. Sunday afternoon was a pretty decent, partly sunny day, so we were able to swim, jet ski and ride on the boat. Monday was another story! It was windy, rainy and a cool front came in. Of course we did not let the weather dampen (ha ha) our fun! We watched a movie, played outside in the sand and rocks, road on the golf cart, did some sidewalk art and took a walk in the woods. The bottom line is that we just had a fabulous time with our amazing family!!

Today Ava and I did a fun little snack craft. We made some "Apple Trees". For the months of August and September in her 2 year old preschool class Ava is learning all about the shape: circle, the number: one and the color: red. The other day at speech I told Ava's speech teacher, Miss Somer, about what Ava was learning. Then this past week she gave us this super fun project to do together.

The ingredients for the project are: crackers, pretzels, red M&M's and peanut butter. You start by spreading peanut butter on a cracker. You then place the pretzel at the base of the cracker as the "trunk" of the tree. Finally you add the M&M's as the apples on the tree. While making the trees we talked about how the crackers are in the shape of a circle and the M&M's are the color red. The project is a fun project to do, a learning experience and very yummy to eat!

Today was Ava's first day of school! She is back at Burnt Hickory, so I think that helped a little with the transition to a new class. This morning it was exciting to see Ava's cousin Kate. The two girls were too cute. When they saw each other they said hey and gave each other a hug. Too bad that they are not in the same class together (boo!).

Ava's first day started positively. She sweetly let Mommy take pictures on the front steps and was singing on the way to school. She was still happy when she walked in to school and saw her buddy Addison and her cousin Kate. Then we got to her classroom and she started crying. Her teachers did a great job comforting her (and me)! When I came back to pick her up Miss Holly and Miss Lauri said that she settled down, after about 30 minutes of crying (more like a tantrum). They said she did have a good day and even made a little craft. After school Ava and I went to Chick fil A to celebrate with Addison, Will and Miss Cynthia the first day of school. Lunch was going great until Ava decided she was done and I wanted to eat a little more before she could go play. So after having a little tantrum and then a medium size tantrum, we went home with out getting to play. Once at home I put Ava down for a nap....and she knocked out almost immediately! I guess we can all be a little grumpy when we are tired!!

Family Beach trip 2011 was soooooooo much fun! We spent a week at an amazing, beautiful beach front house. We had a great time hanging out with Doc, Grammy, Brad, Carri, Hudson and McClellen. We spent most of our time down on the beach, playing in the sand and splashing in the ocean. One morning we took a special trip to the Charleston aquarium which was so much fun and very educational. Towards the end of the week we had a yummy meal out to eat with all nine of us. It was so much fun dressing up and going out to a delicious dinner and then some incredible ice cream for dessert. Adam, Ava and I are so blessed to have the opportunity to spend great quality time with our fun, amazing family. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!

I love Sundays! I love easing into the morning and having a cup of coffee before going to get up Ava and ready for church. I am so thankful for the wonderful children's ministry that Ava attends at our church, Cedarcrest Church. She has great teachers that love her, teach her about Jesus and are patient with her when we have a rough start (like this morning!). After church we came home, lunch and a good nap (for Mommy and Ava). When we all got up from nap time Mommy and Ava shared some ice cream outside on Ava's new picnic table. Daddy made the picnic table...he is so talented. We then played outside with bubbles and played on the swing set. Because it is VERY hot this summer, we went inside and played some of her favorite games, Zingo and Lucky Ducks. Overall, it was a fantastic Sunday! "This is the day the LORD has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!"

I know that we have taken a little break from doing a letter of the day. But we are back to finally finish up the letter of the day curriculum with the letter Z. We started the day by getting up and getting ready to go to Whitewater. Ava loves to zip down the water slides...she now goes down them by herself. After we got home we read together, the Greedy Zebra. The book was a gift from my roommate from college Melissa. She and her husband used to live in Africa, and they actually got to see real zebras. When Ava woke up from her long nap, we played Zingo and sang and danced with "Zacchaeus was a we little man". My favorite part is when Ava sings, "Zacchaeus you come down." She points and shakes her little finger...hilarious!

Hudson, McClellen and Aunt Carri came in town for a few days. The three cousins have had a blast together. Mommy and Carri have also enjoyed some girl bonding too. We watched movies, played in the backyard, ate at Menchie's. The biggest fun we had together was to spend a lot of the day today (Monday) at Whitewater. All three cousins had a great time on riding down the slides, floating in the lazy river and jumping the waves in the wave pool. Ava is so blessed to have super fun and loving cousins!

A little over two and half years ago, three mommies with very sick babies, met each other. Through the many days, months, ups and downs of the NICU we supported one another. All three of our precious babies, (Noah, Ava and Katelyn) decided to come into the world a little bit too early. The last two years we have stayed in touch, encouraged and prayed for each other's children.

Today was a day of fun and fellowship for our three feisty preemies! They played in the pool, played on the swing set, had fun with the toys inside and shared lunch together. It was such a special day. Of course it was great to catch up with the mommies (Allison and Melissa). It is a blessing to have moms that understand what it is like to have a preemie.

Since we were out of town for the fourth of July weekend (see previous post) we had a pretty relaxed day for the Letter O. The highlight of the day was getting to meet for the first time, Baby OLIVIA KATE Browning. She is the daughter of one of Mommy's great friends. We met during college orientation (Gardner-Webb University) and were roommates and friends! It was so wonderful getting together and introducing our daughters to each other.
